  3. Add a waste % (10% typical, 15% for cut-up roofs).

Roofing math: from footprint to bundles

A roof is bigger than its footprint by the pitch factor √(1 + (rise/12)²). A 6/12 pitch adds ~12% area.

Asphalt shingles ship 3 bundles per ‘square’ (100 sq ft). Always order a spare bundle for repairs.
