How due dates are estimated
The classic Naegele's rule adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of the last menstrual period. We adjust for your real cycle length so a 32-day cycle does not give a misleading date.
Ultrasound dating in the first trimester is the most accurate single method — it measures the embryo directly. After 13 weeks, LMP and ultrasound tend to disagree more.
IVF gives an exact conception window. Day 3 transfer = LMP + 17 days; day 5 transfer = LMP + 19 days. Due dates are computed from there.
Only about 5% of babies arrive on their exact due date. 'Full term' is anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks. Always confirm dating with your healthcare provider.
