Ovulation and the fertile window: what the biology actually says

Fertility awareness starts with one fact: pregnancy is possible only during a narrow window each cycle. The egg is viable for 12–24 hours after ovulation. Sperm can survive up to 5 days in fertile cervical mucus. Add them together and the fertile window is 6 days — the 5 days leading up to ovulation plus the day of ovulation itself. Standard cycles run 21–35 days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.
